the above plant was seen at town and country gardens. i learned about the sempervivum arachnoideum or "cobweb houseleek" on a field trip with kellyn's class the other day. i only wish it could be grown large enough to trap small children. and then digest them. slowly. (not kellyn of course, she's divine... all others, however, would be fair game.)

fencing part two

a buddy of mine, who shall remain nameless, showed up at my flat late last night with an odd attachment on his vehicle. it seems he, in his intoxicated state, mowed down a fence and those fences, they do not go down easy if they go down at all. this particular one, 30 some odd feet including two large wooden posts, latched on to the front underside of my friend's truck and hitched a ride through town until he arrived at my place where i assisted him, mostly by shaking my head and giggling, in figuring out how to detach the mess of wire and barbs. i can only logically conclude the fences have moved onto phase two of their plan where they exact their revenge on those who have sat on them entirely too long.

fencing part one

i now need wrist implants because some genius city planner decided a steel cable fence was a good idea to place on the edge of a parking lot. thinking i was pretty cool and belting out filthy/gorgeous lyrics from the scissor sisters, i happened upon said fence yesterday. our meeting left my basket mangled, my bell, my precious bell, in shambles, my handle bars inverted, and my wrists, my poor wrists swollen to the size of small lemons. let the pity begin. heal my ego, shattered by the 10 or so cars full of people who witnessed the spectacle, who no doubt had several good laughs on my account. if there had been alcohol involved, i would have some sort of excuse. as it stands, i was just good old plain not paying attention.

your mom causes friction

pam blogs about a smart mom here. it's worth a read and what i want to know is how on one hand this mother can say what she did and then listen to fall out boy with their lyrics such as "oh don't mind me, i'm watching you two from the closet, wishing to be the friction in your jeans." i like fall out boy and i'm pretty sure anyone who knows me well will atest to the fact that not much offends me, including the afroementioned song lyrics.
what does offend or rather confuses me is this woman's conflicting ideals. tolerance bad, jean friction good? more selective doctrine is the only answer i can come up with. same strategy employed by many a religious fanatic. cheers, kudos, and massive props to fall out boy for sticking to their "god-complex loaded" guns.

net neutrality

kinda important, so pay attention.

new york times editorial: "Cable and telephone companies that provide Internet service are talking about creating a two-tiered Internet, in which Web sites that pay them large fees would get priority over everything else.

But this democratic Internet would be in danger if the companies that deliver Internet service changed the rules so that Web sites that pay them money would be easily accessible, while little-guy sites would be harder to access, and slower to navigate. Providers could also block access to sites they do not like.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee defeated a good Net-neutrality amendment last week. But the amendment got more votes than many people expected, suggesting that support for Net neutrality is beginning to take hold in Congress. In the Senate, Olympia Snowe, a Maine Republican, and Byron Dorgan, a North Dakota Democrat, are drafting a strong Net-neutrality bill that would prohibit broadband providers from creating a two-tiered Internet. Senators who care about the Internet and Internet users should get behind it."

more marriage blah blah blah

Mr. R.L. Fulk wrote a good letter on the Constitution stating that constitutions do not ban individual actions such as marriage. However, there are marriage laws that place limits on marriage such as age and provide for parental support of children. Tax laws and business practices should be changed to focus on dependent children. The tax laws recognize that it is less expensive for two in the same household than in separate households, but a marriage license should not be the basis for a tax advantage. We should have the same standards for gay couples as we do for “straight” couples. We cannot enforce bedroom activity, but we must not diminish the purpose and sanctity of marriage by legalizing same-sex marriage.

mister briscoe, right up to that last sentence, you sound as if you are in favor, then you turn at the last second and mention having the same standards for all couples! how can you want similar standards and then immediatly follow with "oh wait, what i meant was, i want different standards for the one group, my bad..."

and the purpose and sanctity of marriage? tell me what exactly is the purpose of marriage? love, money, kids, companionship, tax relief, citizenship; do tell. and the sanctity? puh-lease, if marriages are so holy, why don''t more of them last?

so tired of hearing about marriage period. it's an antiquated institution that has morphed into a mutli-million dollar industry. all this talk about marriage only serves to reinforce the belief that the only valid relationship that exists it the one sealed with a minister's kiss.
